AS I SIT HERE AND REFLECT ON MY LIFE, I am filled with gratitude and awe at the transformation I have undergone in the last year. I never thought that someone like me, a boy from a broken family with no direction in life, could achieve so much.

Growing up was tough for me. My father was an alcoholic and my mother was abusive. I felt like a burden to both of them and had no real connection with them. I left home at 14 and worked whatever jobs I could find to support myself. Lost and adrift, I felt I had no life, no direction, no purpose.

Then I stumbled upon the Mastery Order YouTube channel and the ideas presented there began to plant a seed of hope in me. In the spring of 2022, I mustered up the courage to write them a “thank you” email and ask about their mentoring program. And that’s how I met Mr. Black.

At first, I was scared and unsure. I had never had a mentor before, and I was afraid of being judged and rejected. But Mr. Black was different. He listened to me with compassion and understanding, and helped me to see my struggles in a new light.

The conversations we had were sometimes harsh and extremely direct, but I knew it was coming from a place of care. Mr. Black challenged me to confront my past and to take responsibility for my future. He taught me the skills I needed to set goals and to develop a plan for achieving them.

Through the mentoring program, I learned to believe in myself and my abilities. I gained confidence and a sense of self-worth that I never had before. I learned to embrace my scars and to use them as a source of strength rather than shame.

I am now enrolled in university, studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Automatics and Computer Science. I am working on the side to support myself throughout this journey, but I feel more empowered than ever before. The scared little boy who was ashamed of his existence and had no goal or purpose in life is no more. I am a young man with ambitions and dreams. I am carrying my scars proudly and using the lessons from my past to change the trajectory of my future.

Now, as I look back on the past year, I am filled with gratitude and a deep sense of appreciation for Mr. Black and the Mastery Order team. Without the support and guidance I received, I don’t know where I would be today. But one thing is for sure: I wouldn’t be here, studying for my degree and working towards my dreams.

So, Mr. Black, if you’re reading this, I want to say thank you. Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Thank you for guiding me out of my dark past and showing me the light of hope and possibility. And thank you for helping me to become the young man I am today: a young man with ambition, drive, and a sense of purpose.
